This is how you check the tire manufacturing date.

In the circle, the first two numbers represent the week of manufacture.

The last two numbers represent the year of manufacture.

So, in the picture I provided as an example, the tire was manufactured on the 35th week of 2005.

Hell's Kitchen 8 - Season Winner

Reality TV cooking show, Hell's Kitchen 8, has just ended (in South East Asia anyway). In the final are Russell (from the blue team) & Nona (red team). And the winner is.... Nona!

The finalists :

Both are 29 years old, with more or less the same education & experience, so the fight was pretty fair. However, Nona has an edge. She has got wonderful taste buds! She excelled in the tasting challenges; having made a similar resemblance to the food Ramsay made, and in the blind tasting challenge.

She is consistent throughout the show, having little problems, whilst most of the time did her work well.

Liverpool Pawned Malaysia National Squad !

Hey there. Liverpool went to Malaysia to fight the Malaysia National Squad on 16 July 2011, as part of its pre-season Asian Tour 2011.

Well, it is to be expected for Liverpool to win (Like, d'uh). However the score just goes to show how different it is, the standard of South Easat Asian football as compared to Europe.

The final score is 6-3, after Liverpool tied to Malaysia 1-1 during the sluggish first half.

The Malaysian squad showed their determination and grit, especially with their attacks at the opponents area, but it proved a very tall order to beat one of the best European football clubs.

Even without many of their star players (Stevie, Reina) & without coach Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool is a tough nut to crack.

However, kudos to Malaysian fottball players, especially Safee Sali (Exported to Pelita Jaya FC, where he performed very well there) who scored Malaysia's second goal through a curling free kick to beat Liverpool's goalie.

Here's hoping that Malaysia Squad will improve and become one of the serious contenders of international football arena.

Kudos to Immigration Malaysia for its Services!

I would like to give my heartfelt congratulations to the Immigration Department Malaysia (http://www.imi.gov.my) for its call centre services.

My call was answered almost immediately, and the questions I asked, they were answered with professionalism.

Gone were the days when the government agencies treat the people (read:rakyat) with a pinch of salt. Gone were the days when they think that they are the masters, and we have to beg them for services.

Now they have the professionalism, and they treat us, the rightful masters with respect.

If I remember correctly, it was the brainchild of the then Prime Minister, Abdullah Badawi, to have Pemudah, to educate & to provide necessary skills to the government servants to handle matters pertaining to the people.

I truly belive that the initiatives is paramount in churning good rapport between the government agencies & the people.

Again, kudos to Immigration Department for the way they project professionalism, and hold high regards to servicing the people.

Sigh, I didn't know that it has been months since I last updated my blog. Whilst God he Almighty gives each and everyone of us the same 24hours, some may find they need an extra hour to get the things they want to get done, done. Unfortunately, I am one of them.

Nothing much to say, actually.

Currently I'm reading Audacity of Hope - Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream, written by Barack Obama. Who, you asked? He is the current President of the United States of America.

I do not fully understands what he is trying to convey, especially with the way he compares / relates / justifies certain matters with names I didn't know, and events that I didn't know of .

However, his writing is pretty engaging and the way he speaks his mind and the idealism he believes on makes reading his novel fun. He talks about matters, from gay marriage and lesbianism to foreign policies, from healthcare to terrorism. I believe that everyone is entitled to one's own ideas and beliefs, and I really appreciate the fact that Mr. Obama didn't evade tough questions and he didn't shy himself from disagreeing with policies he believes is wrong, even though it comes from his own party.

Why Is My Hard Disk (HDD) Smaller than the Size It Says ? Here's Why !

You may purchase a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) but upon getting home & plugging it in the desktop/laptop, you wonder why the actual size is smaller than the size the manufacturer advertised ?

This is because of mathematics. Yeah, mathematics.

Hard disk manufacturers consider :

1 Kilobyte = 1000 Bytes,
1 Megabyte = 1000 Kilobytes
1 Gigabyte = 1000 Megabytes.

This is, however, not true. The real values are :

1 Kilobyte = 1024 Bytes,
1 Megabyte = 1024 Kilobytes (1048576 Bytes)
1 Gigabyte = 1024 Megabytes.

i.e
You bought a 20Gb hard disk, the actual size of the hard disk is only 19Gb and a 80Gb hard disk is actually 74.5Gb

20 Gb - 18.62 actual Gb
40 Gb - 37.25 actual Gb
60 Gb - 55.87 actual Gb
80 Gb - 74.5 actual Gb
100 Gb - 93.13 actual Gb
120 Gb - 111.75 actual Gb
160 Gb - 149.01 actual Gb

These are the actual numbers:

1MB = 1024 bytes
1GB = 1024 MB
So a true GB = 1024 x 1024 = 1,048,576 bytes

But when manufacturer's rate the drives, they use 1000:

1MB = 1000 bytes
1GB = 1000 MB
So their GB = 1000 x 1000 = 1,000,000 bytes

Here's how to figure the true capacity of your HDD. You have an 80GB drive, so in manufacturer's terms, that means:

80 x 1,000,000 = 80,000,000 bytes

But if you divide it by 1,048,576
you'll get the 'true' capacity ..

80,000,000 / 1,048,576 = 76.29 GB .

Malaysia's annual inflation rate spiraled to a 27-year high in June after a fuel price hike sent the cost of food and transport soaring, the government said.

Consumer prices in June rose 7.7 percent compared with the same month in 2007, more than double the 3.8 percent annual inflation rate recorded in May, according to data released late Wednesday by the Statistics Department.

Food and nonalcoholic beverages, which account for 31 percent of the price index, spiked 10 percent from a year ago. Transport expenditure surged 19.6 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco costs climbed 9.2 percent.

"The main reason for this increase is due to the substantial rise in the price of petrol and diesel announced by the government," the statistics department said.

The inflation figures underscore growing public frustrations over the higher cost of living after the government raised gasoline prices by 41 percent and diesel prices by 63 percent in early June to curb a runaway subsidy bill.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Shahrir Samad said June's inflation rate was the highest since April 1981, when consumer prices rose 10.8 percent.

Shahrir said annual inflation would likely remain above 7 percent in July because the government raised electricity tariffs by 18 percent for households and an average of 26 percent for commercial and industry users.

The government has said inflation may cross 5 percent in 2008, but it has pledged not to further raise fuel prices this year. Inflation was around 2 percent last year.

Malaysia's consumer price index is calculated based on retail prices of 460 items in nearly 25,000 outlets nationwide.

As a Malaysian, I also feel the impact of the rising cost of living, and of the inflation. Everything costs more now, then it was a few years back. I blame it on the recent fuel price hike. The 40% fuel hike is by far the highest ever made by Malaysia Government.

I hope the Government will implement ways to softened the impact of the fuel hike, and find ways to better manage the public funds.

I have reached a milestone of my own.
I've breached my target of uploading 50 subtitles.
At the time of writing this post, I've uploaded 57 subtitles :D

Yeah, I admit that not all of the subtitles were entirely my own.
Some were only edited, some were only translated to Malay (meaning the timing were not done by me), and some were work of my friend, tunjang.

However, translating to Malay language is not as easy as it seems.
Malay language is a unique language.

The words and phrases are usually longer than any other language, making it harder to make sentences to fit (so that the lines won't go longer than two lines).

There are no help from Google translation tool or Yahoo! BabelFish, because both sites have yet to come with Malay translation.

There are numerous words that doesn't have its equivalent in Malay.

To translate it directly from English is impossible.
To translate it directly from other language is plain stupid.

The way English sentences are constructed is totally opposite from Malay.

i.e
In English, it's Ice Lemon Tea, but in Malay it's Teh Limau Ais.

Ice = Ais
Lemon = Limau
Tea = Teh

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on, but the point I'm making is that, translating to Malay language is no easy feat.

And that made me so proud of my achievement.

To commemorate this event, various artists lend their hand (and voice) in this video, aptly named :

"Beijing Welcomes You"

Some of the artists featured are singers, but they are also who are not singers (and can't sing really well, LOL) who joined in the music video.

It is a very nice song with nice clips, even though some might gripe. Amongst the comments I've heard is that there are no S.H.E, Fahrenheit, and Chinese singers from other countries, i.e Fish Leong (Malaysia) and from other Chinese song not born in China. And about why there were singers from other nationalities that weren't Chinese featured in the clip, such as Jang Na-Ra (Korea) .

As for me though, I don't mind as what's more important is that they made an excellent clip and that there exist unity that goes beyond racial, ethnicity and skin color.

However, what seemed lacking in this clip is that there are no clip of all the artists singing together, like in a choir. However I do understand that it could not be possible to group them all at once for that purposes.

The subtitle is in Malay Language.

Former Deka entries, whether drawn or dramatized, have taken the usual hero vs. super- villain route, making them seem tired even before they've left the gate. In addition, they suffered from the basic limitations of the special effects at that time; the manga-inspired concept of razor yo-yos and killer cranes seemed less than convincing in a martial arts film. Matsuura is dynamic though (like former deka girls) lacking in a certain humor. The standout villain, played by Morning Musume alumnus Rika Ishikawa, is sexy in her faux-leather action outfit - a complete surprise. The normally demure Ishikawa is clearly having fun in her over-the-top role, and you wish she could appear more often.

The film could have used more hard-edged humor - something that Fukasaku might learn from the work of his latefather, the late Kinji Fukusaku. Also, the film's plot makes a high ratio of characters irritatingly geeky and impossibly suicidal. But these flaws are tolerable in the anticipation of a possible sequel, either on film or serial. Certainly there's enough talent in Upfront Management to cast several film projects. Aibon would be amusing in some suitably smoky role, Miki perfect as a villain, and Eri could be on hand for comic relief.

If camp is your thing, and you don't mind character actors whose characters are never fully explained, and you want the FLASH and BANG, then this is the movie for you. Total tongue-and-cheek piece of work, especially the costumes (just seeing the main character's final costume is worth the price of the film!).

Grown-ups and teens are treated as distinct species here, and the film handles the theme of teen loneliness and alienation with lots of humor. But it's a little long, and sometimes the film focuses on quirks and gimmicks at the expense of plot--I know, I know, it's camp, but even camp needs a plot!

My review for this film :

I Am Legend is an adaptation of a novel with the same title, written by Richard Mathesen. However, the only similarities between the novel and the movie are the title and the basic story premise. Other than that, this movie is entirely different than the novel. So, in order to truly enjoy this movie, one has to grasp the idea that it has little to do with the novel, and to enjoy the movie without comparing between the two.

Anyway, as long as one can grasp the concept of the movie not being like the novel, the movie is actually pretty good. Although at times it feels like a cross between "Castaway" and "28 Days Later", it is an engaging watch. This is due to the fact that it has some well-filmed action sequences, a few genuinely scary moments, and awesome acting from Will Smith (and his dog).

Fans of Will Smith would be glad to know the movie is full of Will Smith-y goodness. In fact, his presence is so overwhelming that one reckons that instead of pretending it is an adaptation of I Am Legend, it should be called I Am Will Smith. Now that would have been some legend indeed.

My review of the film ?
Well, the film is quite nicely done, with more emphasis on the mood rather the conversations. The film is about a man who has fallen in love with a woman who came to his stall to buy the watch he was wearing. The girl migrated to Paris the next day, and his longing grew deeper that he decided to look for her in Paris.
The film won 11 awards and 2 nominations.

Stupid organisers, didn't limit the tickets. Perhaps, they thought the more the merrier. Well, it was, but at the expense of the comfort of the party goers.

And from the sources that I heard, those who were not let in set up the fire in the parking area. The news stated that almost 50 motorcycles were set ablaze at the 7:30pm fire. Pity the motorcycle owners.

As much as I'd like to think that it was Sunway Lagoon's fault for the mismanagement, I still think it was Roxy who sucked as being the organizer. I hope they learnt a lesson. Not to simply give out tickets! Limit the tickets, make it exclusive, so that only those deserving can get in. From what I've heard, people can come in simply by buying Seventeen magazine! Stupid. How would the organiser estimate how many people would turn up? Aiyoooo ....

F*cked up Roxy Summer Splash @ Sunway Pyramid

Just got back from Seventeen Roxy Summer Splash 2008, and I gotta say, I was very disappointed with the party. It sucked !! Big time !!

Got to the Sunway Lagoon at 11am, and already there were very huge crowd turning out to get in. And the organizer didn't flinch a bit to let us get in earlier, which made the crowd grew even bigger at the entrance. It was very unpleasant, with people shouting to get in the entrance, and being pushed around. And not forgetting the unpleasant smell from the crowd. Euwwwwww!!

After much pushing around, stepping on others slippers later, we were let in. At around 1pm!! Goddamn we were let in after 2 freaking hours of waiting in line! Stupid crap. And whilst were patiently standing in line, we were shouted by the Sunway Lagoon's people using inhaler, shouting in vain for us not to get impatient. Like d'uh, just get on with your friggin' job !

And with the help ( or the lack of ) of the policemen who were barricading the entrance to smoothen the flow, we manage to get in. Haihz, really like we were some refugees from Nigeria trying to get to monthly supply of rice and flour. Stupid.

Inside, they were already many people inside. We didn't get any chairs to lie around, and we didn't get lockers to put our things. And it was very annoying. How the heck do we get in the pool, when our belongings were left lying around?? Stupid. Sunway didn't provide enough lockers, like this was their first major events ever.

Somehow, one of us decided not to get in the pool and chose to check out the partygoers instead. Which was very nice of him, for that we were able to leave our belongings to him.

So into the pool we got. Heck it was not nice. the water was murky (like the pantai in Port Dickson, haha) and it was full of chlorine. And because they were to many people inside the pool, movement was very limited. Tried doing backstroke once, and I accidentally smacked the young chap in the buttocks. Hahahha.

About half an hour later (which was very quick considering the amount of time we took to get in), we got out of the pool. we changed clothes in the washroom, whilst my tak malu boyfriend, changed in the hut, in front of other people, oblivious to what he was doing. Hahahaha self-proclaimed exhibitionist. Haha.

Oh ya, before getting in the pool, we bought some food. We were ripped off our money, it caused us RM26 for all the food. Hahahaha, why didn't we bring our own food before going in? Haahahha there were bag checking before entering, Huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu.

The party organisers didn't have enough booths for us to join. The were few booths, providing face painting, a booth set up for us to take pictures with the Seventeen finalists (take pictures only with the banner lo, don't have the real person). Stupid. And take this, all booths were not free! You'll have to pay! Stupid. You invite us to join your party, you treated us like herds of sheep at the entrance, and you expected us to pay for the items in the booth. You gotta be crazy. Or stupid. Or dumb. Or all of the above.

Then there was a stage for the Roxy models to strut their latest line of clothings. Boring. And there were Hunks & Babes competition, where the models will sturut their sluttiness (babes) and their gay-ness (Hunks) on stage. Euww!

A salvaging point is the Hitz.fm crew who entertained us with nice tracks of music, and humor thrown in. It was pretty well done. And we oughtta thank them for it, because the party will be dead boring without them.

And we got back at around 3pm. As the entrance was also the exit, we have to walked our from those people who were still lining out outside. I thought I want to inform them how badly the party sucked, but I chose not to. I want them to feel how I felt. Hahahha how very cruel of me.

All in all, the party sux.
If Seventeen (or Roxy for the matter) plans for
another party at Sunway Lagoon, count me out.
I WON'T BE GOING.

Many people have asked me on how to capture (record) TV streaming. So, I've decided to come with this simple tutorial.

[1] First, you'll need a recorder. As for me, I'm using WM Recorder 12.

I lost two friends a few days back.
They were on their way to Kuantan early that morning when the incident happened.

KUANTAN: Three friends were killed when the car they were travelling in was involved in a collission with two other vehicles before plunging into a ditch near here.

The dead were identified driver Chan Kin Chaw, 20, of Taman Muda, Kuala Lumpur; Yap Li Sim, 21, of Jalan Mat Kilau here and Michelle Gan Mei Li, 21, of Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur.

All three died on the spot

in the accident involving another vehicle and an oil palm tanker at the 21km stretch of the Kuantan-Sungai Lembing road about 9am.

Chan and Yap were trapped in the mangled vehicle and firemen were called in to extricate their remains.

District traffic chief Asst Supt Wan Zahari Wan Busu said Gan was thrown out off the vehicle due to the impact of the crash.

He said initial investigations showed the driver had lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and swerved to the opposite lane.

“The driver of the other car managed to avoid a head-on collision but the victims’ car grazed the tanker trailing behind before plunging into the ditch.

“The five occupants in the other car including three children suffered only minor injuries,” he said.

It was my first time attending a non-Muslims funeral, and I have to admit I was a bit uncomfortable. Uncomfortable because I did not know the traditions. But our other friends helped.

I didn't mean that he edited / doctored it. But it could be that he didn't not take the picture right when the swimmer jump into the swimming pool."

Election Commission Scrapped its Plan to Use Indelible Ink for 12th General Election

Major newspapers in Malaysia today reported that Election Commission (EC) has scrapped its plan to use indelible ink for the 12th General Election this 8th March.

The Star reported that EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said police investigations revealed that people had smuggled the ink in and had planned to go to rural and remote areas to trick village folk into believing that their fingernails had to be marked before they can go to vote.

He said: "They are out to create confusion and suspicion by persuading those not familiar with the procedure to have the ink applied (to a voter’s forefinger or nail) before polling day. “The EC views these issues seriously as the election process and public order and security cannot be compromised."

However, he stressed that political pressure had been exerted on the EC to cancel the use of the ink, and added that the EC had to examine the other laws and regulations first.

New Straits Times reported the same thing. EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman had announced that indelible ink will not be used on polling day as security of the method of preventing multiple voting had been breached. The decision was made after four police reports were lodged on the smuggling of the ink, two in Perlis and one each in Kedah and Kelantan.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Menteri Besar and Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat went as far as to accuse the Election Commission of backing certain parties to allow their supporters to vote more than once.

"They want their voters to cast their ballots twice, 10, 15 times...that is why they cancelled it (use of ink). This is extremely disappointing."

He accused the EC of not being transparent and not having the will to curb electoral cheating.

Nik Aziz urged Pas supporters to accept the decision calmly and not to be react by taking their anger to the streets.

"Stay calm, stay out of trouble. If there is (trouble), they are not caused by our (Pas) supporters," he told reporters after receiving the "Anugerah Amanah Gerak" award by anti-corruption non-governmental organisation Gerak at his office here. The award honours him as Malaysia's most responsible and trustworthy political leader.

To me, this is a mockery of the promises made by the Election Commission about their readiness to co-operate in making the 12th GE a clean, free & fair election. Calls made by BERSIH (Coalition for Free, Fair & Clean Election) to ask the EC, among others , the use of indelible ink to minimise the chances of phantom voters is finally not being heard.

For the record, Before the date of election was called by Prime Minister, EC has pledged that they will import indelible ink, which cost around 2.4mil to provide assurance that the election will be conducted in a transparent manner.

I think it is a bit too coincidental that the plan is scrapped just days before the election date. Whilst we may only wonder why it is done at such a time, perhaps it is better to ask ourselves, "Who benefit most from this decision?"

It's rainy season, and I love it! I love it so much! I luuuurrrrvvvvveee it! Rainy season rawx! I'm so happy the there's heavy downpour everyday! Malaysia is so much better when it's raining, it makes our climate much cooler. Unlike February, when it is so darn hot, your clothes literally stuck to your skin! And the thing I hate about warm months like February is because right after you came out from shower, you feel like you need to bath, again..

8 days countdown to Malaysia's 12th General Election. Phew, with the election getting nearer each day, both governments and opposition parties (or alternative parties as I'd like to call it) are putting their best foot forward, hoping that the Rakyat will vote for them.

I have got nothing much to say about this coming election though, except for the mental aggravation & fatigue & eye strain & the 'brainwashing' I receive everyday from the TV. The radio is not spared, either. The prime-time news is being used as a campaigning machine, with talks about some representative doing what s*it, where s*it, threats of fear & uncertainty is being cast to the voters that might choose to vote for other party than theirs. News about some representatives who just recently realised that th people in their constituency has waited for 30 f**kin' years to get land title! Also about some representative that goes door-to-door telling the voters, "Hey, I'm your wakil rakyat. You may not have seen me as I'm only really working once every 5years, so forgive me." & who can watch this ad about voting for 'Meh le kita Melangkah sama², undilah kami', the blo0dy same ads repeated times & times again! Don't they have anything else to say?

Eh, aren't they just a caretaker now, since the Parliament is resolved to enable for the election to be called? Dacing, huh? I thought come this new millennium, modern technologies have long since replaced the 'dacing' with digital weighing machine. Hey, what's dacing in English, by the way?

Laugh Out Loud ! I have always known that our PM, is advocating his version of Islam, Islam Hadhari. He has not received many support from his fellow Cabinet, him being the 1 & only person barking the slogan, whilst the others choose to remain silent about it. Jenazah Allahyarham yang juga bekas Mufti Negeri Selangor dibawa keluar dari rumahnya di Jalan Seri Sambanthan, Taman Seri Andalas jam 9 pagi untuk disolatkan di masjid Lipat Kajang, Seri Andalas.

Sebelum disemadikan di Makam Diraja, jenazah dibawa ke Masjid Negeri Shah Alam bagi disolatkan.

Lebih seribu orang hadirin menyembahyangkan jenazah Almarhum.

Orang ramai seawal jam 9 pagi sudah memenuhi ruang masjid Negeri Shah Alam dan makam Diraja yang terletak di hadapan masjid.

Allahyarham meninggalkan seorang balu, Datin Khalijah Abdullah serta tiga orang anak yang sudah berumahtangga.

Allahyarham menghembuskan nafas terakhir pada jam 3.05 petang, 30 Januari lalu di Pusat Rawatan Rapi (ICU), Hospital Sungai Buloh.

Katanya, walaupun Allahyarham dipecat daripada meneruskan jawatan sebagai Mufti tetapi beliau tidak patah semangat untuk meneruskan perjuangan dalam Islam.

Bagi memastikan maruah Islam dipandang tinggi, Allahyarham sanggup mengorbankan kemewahan yang diperolehi dan rela dipecat sebagai Mufti.

Allahyarham dilantik sebagai Mufti Selangor dari Ogos 1985 hingga Oktober 1997.

Allahyarham dipecat pada penghujung Oktober 1997 kerana mengeluarkan fatwa mengharamkan pertandingan ratu cantik yang diadakan di salah sebuah hotel di Selangor.

Pemecatan tersebut tidak menghalang Allahyarham untuk meneruskan perjuangan dalam Islam sebagai pendakwah bebas.

For standard consumer text-messaging technology, the answer is largely that they disappear. But Kilpatrick's and Chief of Staff Christine Beatty's devices employ less-fleeting technology.

"I think people can feel comfortable we're not storing information that can later be used against them," Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Erica Sevilla said. "Unless you have something stored on your phone or on a recipients' phone, it does not stay on our network for a long period."

AT&T Inc. keeps text messages for up to 72 hours until delivery is successful, spokesman Howard Riefs said. If a message can't be delivered, it is removed from the system and can't be retrieved.

Kilpatrick and Beatty testified last summer in a whistleblower trial that arose from a lawsuit filed by two police officers alleging they were fired for investigating claims Kilpatrick used his security unit to cover his extramarital affairs.

Kilpatrick and Beatty denied any sexual or romantic ties in 2002 and 2003. But the Detroit Free Press said in a story published Thursday that it examined 14,000 text messages on Beatty's city-issued pager from those years and found many examples.

SkyTel's devices employ a technology called Narrowband PCS, including two-way paging, that "rose and fell" in the mid-1990s, according to David Chamberlain, a wireless analyst with Scottsdale, Ariz.-based In-Stat.

Chamberlain said SkyTel's device is more akin to e-mail than to text-messaging, and messages are stored. While mainstream technology has since moved to SMS or Short Message Service technology, some corporations and governments have stayed with wireless services like SkyTel.

"It was going to put mobile messaging in the hands of lots of people," Chamberlain said. "(But) it was so poorly differentiated from text messaging. It required people essentially to have a second, very expensive message-only account."

SkyTel's contracts with corporations and governments say communications will be stored for legal reasons. And Chamberlain said users of any technology should know that when using any device issued by an employer.

"There's absolutely no expectation of privacy with phones, e-mails, text messages or computers," he said.

While people may feel comfort knowing their text messages aren't permanently stored, that doesn't mean they should let their guards down when it comes to electronic communications, said a spokeswoman for an online privacy advocacy organization.

"The whole concept of data retention by third parties ... is going to be the big privacy question over the next couple of decades," Rebecca Jeschke of the San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation.

"We trust so much of our communications and thoughts, even, to these third parties who are capturing this information and storing it in various ways. It's time for us to think about it."

I'm sure many of you are playing Fantasy Premier League, an online game whereby one get to choose his team of 15 soccer players and pits it with other members in a league of your choice.

Well, I have an account (what do you think? You think I'm a coward who shy away from defeat that I have to make multiple accounts so that if one team loses, my other team wins? lol) and I join two leagues, TorrentMalaya & Liga Torrent Jiwang .

Well, I started very well (I joined from the 1st Gameweek) but my team's performances deteriorated as the league progressed. I blamed the results on my lack of time and my poor judgment in choosing my team players.

I've always thought that the good players are the ones always appearing in the newspapers and in the sports news. Hehehehe..

I started improvising on my team selection just recently. I've come to realise that the good players to be chosen are the ones that has a high chance of playing 90 minutes (thus choosing Liverpool players somewhat of a gamble, heck who could possibly know what will Rafa chooses for the next match!), midfielders that is always making assists and have a good chance of scoring (the reason why I chooses Ronaldo, because he is so good-looking, o0o0ops I mean he scores goals so often! and is a regular in Manchester United) and a cheapsh*t players for the reserves. Hehehe..

World : 30 Years Later

I don't think there's a better title for this post, so I'll go with the title World : 30 Years Later.
To me, it is an aptly given title, considering the things that I am going to write in this entry.

Have you given some thoughts about what the world would be 30 years from now?
I am pretty sure that most of you have. And I am also pretty sure that most of you would probably think that 30 years from now, the world will be a dark and gloomy place. Red skies with grey fog, with chemical fumes that permeates the air, and sights of men and women wearing oxygen masks because the air is not healthy to breathe with anymore.

But I do not think that the future must become that bad in the future. Yeah, I may be too optimistic, but I believe that we can do our part to make the world a nice place to live with;
then, now and forever.

At the pace we are going now, I believe that the conscience is already there, but not enough effort is put to help the Mother Nature. And most people would rather turn a blind eye convince themselves that the situation is not that bad, after all.

My wish is that people will be more responsible and will put more effort in keeping the environment clean. I hope that people will learn to recycle, and to recycle as well! I also hope that a cleaner (but cheaper, Hehe..) alternatives to fuel is finally found. I am hoping against all odds that maybe, just maybe, Ribena could be used as the alternative to fuel ! Lolz .

What has Origins Gotta Do With It ?
(And Why in the World is Indonesia So Persistent in Claiming
that Rasa Sayang song Belongs to Them)

The reason why Malaysia has succeded as a tourist destination is because it is truly Asia. Our culture comprises all the Asian elements be it Indian, Chinese, Arab, Indo-Chinese or indigenous Malaysians. You will find pieces of Asia in this beautiful land and they meld into each other with ease.

Therefore, I feel that the Tourism Minister should not remove a piece of our Malaysia Truly Asia campaign by stopping 'barongan' and 'endang' dances in its promotion simply because Indonesians claim these "belong" to Indonesia. I also hope the Chinese lion dance and the vibrant Indian dances don't suffer a similar fate for "fear" that they have originated from other countries.

Of late, Indonesia has been quite vocal in its claim that we have been using its culture, especially its music and dance, for tourism promotion purposes.

Culture is one of those thing which is never original and never will be. Go Japan and you will hear Chinese elements in its music, songs and dances. Go to Indo-China and you will experience Indian or Chinese elements in their culture. Go Latin America or even the Philippines and you will see Spanish elements.

All over the world, people influence one another and there is no one culture that is truly original. Should we all give up our cultures then?

If we start striking out performances or music with foreign-perceived roots, then we will have to strike out lion dances, the 'zapin', 'bharata natyam' and so forth. How then we are going to justify our promotion tagline of Malaysia Truly Asia ?

Even if certain performances had their roots in Indoneaisn culture, I am sure these would have evolved to acquire a malaysian identity, especially in the customes as well as the way they are presented.

Moreover, haven't historians on both sides of the Straits tell us both Indonesia and malaysia grew out of the same mother - the Johor empire ?

Culture is something reflective of a country's people. As we are a multi-racial country, our culture will always reflect elements of Asia.

^ This has gotten Indonesia so jumpy, claiming that Malaysia has "copied" their song, & at the same time claiming that Rasa Sayang (or "Rasa Sayange", as the Indonesians called it) belongs to them .

Personally, I think that claiming a music, dance, or even literature belongs only to a nation or a particular race, is unjustified. So instead of bragging about the "owner" of the song, it is better for all of us, to sit back & relax, and enjoy the different cultures of the world .

Popular culture is loaded with myths and half-truths. Most are harmless. But when doctors start believing medical myths, perhaps it's time to worry.

In the British Medical Journal this week, researchers looked into several common misconceptions, from the belief that a person should drink eight glasses of water per day to the notion that reading in low light ruins your eyesight.

"We got fired up about this because we knew that physicians accepted these beliefs and were passing this information along to their patients," said Dr. Aaron Carroll, assistant professor of pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine. "And these beliefs are frequently cited in the popular media."

And so here they are, so that you can inform your doctor:

Myth : We use only 10 percent of our brains.

Fact : Physicians and comedians alike, including Jerry Seinfeld, love to cite this one. It's sometimes erroneously credited to Albert Einstein. But MRI scans, PET scans and other imaging studies show no dormant areas of the brain, and even viewing individual neurons or cells reveals no inactive areas, the new paper points out. Metabolic studies of how brain cells process chemicals show no non-functioning areas. The myth probably originated with self-improvement hucksters in the early 1900s who wanted to convince people that they had yet not reached their full potential, Carroll figures. It also doesn't jibe with the fact that our other organs run at full tilt.

Myth : You should drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

Fact : "There is no medical evidence to suggest that you need that much water," said Dr. Rachel Vreeman, a pediatrics research fellow at the university and co-author of the journal article. Vreeman thinks this myth can be traced back to a 1945 recommendation from the Nutrition Council that a person consume the equivalent of 8 glasses (64 ounces) of fluid a day. Over the years, "fluid" turned to water. But fruits and vegetables, plus coffee and other liquids, count.

Myth : Fingernails and hair grow after death.

Fact : Most physicians queried on this one initially thought it was true. Upon further reflection, they realized it's impossible. Here's what happens: "As the body’s skin is drying out, soft tissue, especially skin, is retracting," Vreeman said. "The nails appear much more prominent as the skin dries out. The same is true, but less obvious, with hair. As the skin is shrinking back, the hair looks more prominent or sticks up a bit."

Myth : Shaved hair grows back faster, coarser and darker.

Fact : A 1928 clinical trial compared hair growth in shaved patches to growth in non-shaved patches. The hair which replaced the shaved hair was no darker or thicker, and did not grow in faster. More recent studies have confirmed that one. Here's the deal: When hair first comes in after being shaved, it grows with a blunt edge on top, Carroll and Vreeman explain. Over time, the blunt edge gets worn so it may seem thicker than it actually is. Hair that's just emerging can be darker too, because it hasn't been bleached by the sun.

Myth : Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight.

Fact : The researchers found no evidence that reading in dim light causes permanent eye damage. It can cause eye strain and temporarily decreased acuity, which subsides after rest.

Myth : Eating turkey makes you drowsy.

Fact : Even Carroll and Vreeman believed this one until they researched it. The thing is, a chemical in turkey called tryptophan is known to cause drowsiness. But turkey doesn't contain any more of it than does chicken or beef. This myth is fueled by the fact that turkey is often eaten with a colossal holiday meal, often accompanied by alcohol — both things that will make you sleepy.

Myth : Mobile phones are dangerous in hospitals.

Fact : There are no known cases of death related to this one. Cases of less-serious interference with hospital devices seem to be largely anecdotal, the researchers found. In one real study, mobile phones were found to interfere with 4 percent of devices, but only when the phone was within 3 feet of the device. A more recent study, this year, found no interference in 300 tests in 75 treatment rooms. To the contrary, when doctors use mobile phones, the improved communication means they make fewer mistakes.

Simple . All you need to do is :

Purchase a book for him / her
Write down your name & message on card

and MPH will get your present and message delivered to the children of your choice by this December .

What Book Should I Choose ?

It really depends on you to choose . However, it is advisable to choose a book that suits the recepient's age and gender (written on the heart-shaped card), as books that talks about politics, mechanical engineering, or Malaysian Taxation Planning 10th Edition, would be very hard for the kids to comprehend. =)

As for me, I've chosen a book written by MusimGrafik (I think it's just his/her nickname), titled Where Monsoons Meets, : A People's History of Malaya . It's a very good book that teaches the younger generation about our nation's history ? Sounds boring ? Nope, don't think so. The book is full of funny diagrams and witty captions, and the language is very easy to understand . Hehe I hope the kid is happy with the book I chose . By the way, I can't remember her name, but she is 13 years old and she stays in Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak² Yatim Johor .

My Trip to Aquaria !

Hehe.. Seriously dunno wut to write in my blog dy :D

So in conjunction with Visit Malaysia year 2007 (errrr..wut??), me decided to share my experience visiting the Aquaria in Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Malaysia. (~~LoLz describe until so long, as if la ppl dun know where is KLCC, LoLz~~)

To the uninitiated, Aquaria is more or less like the Underwater World in Singapore and in Langkawi. The giant aquariums contain thousands of marine creatures, ranging from the small ikan bilis (can't remember wut's it called in English, lol) to the super duper huge sharks!

But that is not all in Aquaria. It also has other animals;
i.e monkeys, centipedes, spiders, snakes, starfishes, jellyfish, and even seahorses !
But no, not all is in the water, though.. Are you kidding me?? rotflol~~

Then there's a routine 'come-watch-the-divers-give-the-hungry-fishes-something-to-eat' session. I do not have the exact time though, but it is usually in the afternoon . Below is the clip of the session I managed to record :

[Book Review] The Innocent Man (John Grisham)

Currently, I am spending my free time (if there is any, that is.. Lol) reading The Innocent Man. It is a book written by John Grisham, and it is his first time writing a non-fiction book (I gotta say that it is an impressive piece of work!) .

Story goes that in a small city of Ada, Oklahoma, there has been two brutal killings of young girls. Well, in that small city, whilst petty crimes like theft and vandalism is common, the news of the brutal killings shocked the city. People were scared out of their daylight; kids are not allowed to be outside unaccompanied, curfews were enforced to teenagers, and doors and gates were locked all the time.

Days gone by and yet the police was unable to bring those who commit the crimes to justice. Under pressure, police began their search. Without any tangible evidence that they can produce to the court, they began to count on 'eye witnesses'. Stories were forged, suspected criminals were harassed to get the information the police wanted, and incongruent stories were made up.

I have yet to finish reading the book, but I recommend those who like legal thrillers novels to get this book. The writing skill is simple, yet he is able to portray feelings and emotions of all the 'characters' in his book. A master in writing legal novels, he is !!

Animation flicks these days have managed to pull in their fair share of adults what with their more sophisticated storyline and filming techniques.

But this movie sadly takes a step back, both in terms of its production and plot. One will end up wondering how such plain fare could make it to the big screen.

The laughs are few and far between and some of the subject matter is not really suitable for young children.

I can't help feeling that this movie really doesn't know who the target audience is.

The story centers on a young and restless bee named Barry Banson (voiceover by Jerry Seinfeld), who has just graduated from college. He is not too happy following in his footsteps as a stirrer and finds that bee are being forced to work too darn hard for their honey.

In a trip outside the hive, he nearly gets swat but is saved by Vanessa, a florist. They soon become friends.

Then Barry finds out that humans actually eat the honey which they 'steal' from the bees. So he decides to take the human race to court to force them to stop using honey. He wins the case but the consequences are far bigger than he realizes.

A good splash of colors throughout the film, but nothing extraordinaire in terms of storyline.

[Book Review] Sweetheart From Hell (May-Zhee Lim)

I just bought a book at MPH today. The title of the book is Sweetheart From Hell. It is written by a sixteen year old (can you believe it? Such a young age and already a published writer! Wow!) May-Zhee Lim.

As of now, I have only read 19 ages out of 382 pages of this book. As the completion is less than 10%, then I am in no authority to review about this book. So give me time and I'll post a complete review once I've finish reading it.

It's English at its best !!
I have never ever, in my entire life, thought that a politician would have a very poor command of English . I always thought that the politicians would have impeccable English, it made English teachers in secondary school feels like a toddler .

Boy, was I surprised ! A cabinet member who can't speak proper English ? Why are you cringing ? What's with the face, bro ? That's not the worst part ! The fella, who have a lousy English, is Malaysia's Information Minister ? Now, that is crazy !!

To me, to be an Information Minister, one should above all else, aside of having the guts to stand in front of the crowd, and smiling for hours at functions (yeah, u get the idea) .. o0o0o0ops, sorry I digress ..

What I'm trying to say is that, of all people, an Information Minister must be proficient in English (aside of the national language Bahasa Melayu) as English is the widely spoken language in the world . And I'd go as far as saying that he needs to be proficient in at least 4 languages (namely Bahasa Melayu, English, Mandarin, and Tamil) as language is how one connects to other people . And those 4 languages that I mention above are widely spoken in Malaysia . If an Information Minister can't speak all these 4 languages, (okay, a discount, at least a good English is well enough), then does he convey the message of the Government to the masses ??

It is not as what you have been trying to do this, to do it everywhere but in Malaysia people are laugh you, We know our Police at last have allowed this procession to go to Istana Negara you know. Do Police, First Police might be have handled them with tear gas. Police don't, don't fire anybody.

Al Jazeera: Our correspondent came back to our office with chemicals in his eyes

Zainuddin Maidin : This is the way, your idea is that what you are trying to project what is your mind, you think we are Pakistan, we are Burma, we are Myanmar. Your thinking

Al Jazeera: Well unfortunately when you refused to let people to protest, it does appear so

Zainuddin Maidin: That is why we are not like you. That is why you have early perception. You come here and you want to project us as like undemocratic country. This is a democratic country.

Al Jazeera: So why can't people protest then if it is a democratic country?

Zainuddin Maidin: First people protest. We are allowing protest and they have demonstrated. But when we try to disperse them, and then later when they don't want to disperse. But later our Police compromise. They have compromised and allowed then to proceed to Istana Negara. Police, our Police have succeeded in handling them gently, right? Why don't you report that and you take the opposition, someone from the opposition party, you asked him to speak and you don't take from the Government, right

Al Jazeera: Why did you not break up these protesters more peacefully?

Zainuddin Maidin: Pardon, pardon

Zainuddin Maidin: I can't hear you. I can't hear you.

Zainuddin Maidin: No, we are, first this is illegal. We don't want, normally this demonstration.

Al Jazeera:: OK, let me return to my former question: why is the protest illegal?

Zainuddin Maidin: Yeah it is illegal. First is because (Why?) we have the election in Malaysia. No point of having a protest. We are allowing, we have an election every five years, never fail. We are not like Myanmar, not like other country. And you are helping these. You at Al Jazerra is also helping these, these forces. You know these forces who are not impatient, who don't believe in democracy

Funny, ain't it ? And to me, it's not only his English is bad, it is also his utter arrogance in answering the questions asked . And his sheer lack of knowledge of what is really is about
the BERSIH rally . 1 case in point : The rally was done to call for a free election,
and in replying to the question asked (Why is this protest illegal?) and this fella
answered that the rally was illegal because Govt has never failed to hold elections once every
5 years . Wtf ?? Wtf ?? Wtf ??

I was watching the BERSIH (Coalition for Fair & Clean Elections) news in Youtube when I stumbled upon this song. It is a duet, sang by Indonesian singers, Acha Septriasa dan Irwansyah. The title of the song is "Aku Bersujud" .

The melody suited the music perfectly, and the vocals is also superb .
